World Consumer Rights Day

World Consumer Rights Day is celebrated each year on March 15 as a means of raising global awareness about consumer rights and needs. Celebrating the day helps to bring attention to the rights that many of us have and perhaps bring attention to nations that are not yet afforded these rights. This is an opportunity to influence change so that the rights of all consumers can be respected and protected, to protest against market abuse and social injustices which compromise those rights.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy outlined what he called the Consumer Bill of Rights which you are now provided protections through. The bill states that consumers have the right to be informed, the right to choose, the right to safety, the right to be heard, the right to have problems corrected, the right to consumer education, and the right to service.

Efforts by the consumer movement have helped to pass laws protecting consumers from unfair and unsafe business practices. Through these efforts, those last three rights were added to the list in the years since President Kennedy’s original letter on the topic.

The organization Consumers International was formed in 1960 with the goal to fight for a fair, safe and sustainable future for consumers in a global market dominated by international corporations. Consumers International has continued bring awareness to these rights with World Consumer Rights Day which originated in 1983.

Along with rights come responsibilities. Those responsibilities fall to you as the consumer. You must use information that’s been provided to you, choose carefully, use products safely, and learn consumer skills. It is your responsibility to take action and seek a solution when problems occur.

Copper and Brass Sales ensures your rights are protected and fulfilled by providing information on our products, processes, and business practices. You’ll see that across each of our websites (this blog, the customer portal, and our corporate website). We operate within an expansive industry that provides you the opportunity to choose your supplier – and we’re grateful that you’ve selected Copper and Brass Sales as your first choice! We have robust safety guidelines that we follow to protect our employees, the material, and transport of the material which, in the end, provides you with quality material to meet your specification.

We want to hear from you when things go wrong, but also when things go well. We have contact forms on each of our websites, live chat, and additional contact information for you to reach us when it matters. We want to make things right if something goes wrong, so we work with you to correct problems. While it goes hand-in-hand with the information we provide, we also educate consumers on topics such as the difference between pipe and tube or even the usage of our online platforms like our self-service Customer Portal. Customer service is not only a right you’re afforded, but it’s also extremely important to us here at Copper and Brass Sales. We want you to have the best possible experience with our material, our online tools, and our staff. We work hard to provide high quality material and value added services without consideration of race, gender, income, or age.

Today we celebrate your rights as a consumer and hope that regardless of where you spend your money, that you are treated with the respect and transparency as set forth by the Consumer Bill of Rights.
